Sławomir Czarnecki (composer)

Sławomir Stanisław Czarnecki (born July 23, 1949 in Jelenia Góra ) is a Polish composer and music teacher.

Czarnecki studied composition with Piotr Perkowski and Romuald Twardowski at the Warsaw State Music Academy from 1969 to 1974 . As a French government scholarship holder, he completed additional studies with Olivier Messiaen in Paris. After graduating, he taught music theory at the Józef Elsner Music School in Warsaw, where he was deputy director from 1989 to 1992. Since 1996 pupils of the music school have been able to present their works at the student music forum he initiated. Since 2006 he has been teaching at the Institute for Music Education at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz .

As a composer, Czarnecki has won numerous competitions and was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland (1996), the Komisja Edukacji Narodowej Medal (2004) and the Gloria Artis Silver Medal for cultural merit . He is a member of the ZAiKS artists' association and the Polish composers' association, vice-president of the Karol Szymanowski music society and, since 2011, president of the Warsaw branch of the composers' association.
