Maciej Zieliński (composer)

Maciej Zieliński (born March 29, 1971 in Warsaw ) is a Polish composer.

Zieliński studied composition with Marian Borkowski at the Warsaw Music Academy until 1996 and then completed postgraduate studies with Paul Patterson at the London Royal Academy of Music . He also attended composition courses from Louis Andriessen , Osvaldas Balakauskas , Martin Bresnick , Michael Finessy , Peter Michael Hammel , Zygmunt Krauze , Hanna Kulenty , Claude Lefebvre , Daryl Runswick , Witold Szalonek and Jōji Yuasa .

His compositions have been performed at numerous Polish and international festivals, including the Warsaw Autumn (1994, 1995, 1998, 2004), the Jihlava 96 International Choir Festival , the Copenhagen European Youth Music Festival (1996), the Park Lane Festival in London (1999) , the AudioArt Festival in Warsaw (1999) and the Warsaw Musical Meetings (1999, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2008). Several of his works have been broadcast on the radio or published on CD.

In addition to chamber music and orchestral works, electroacoustic and vocal music, Zieliński composed numerous film scores and pop music. His works have been awarded numerous prizes, including the Second Critics' Prize at the Forum of Young Composers in Cracow (1994), the Second Prize at the International Competition for Synthesizer and Computer Music in Germany (1995), the Third Prize at the Jihlava 96 Composition Competition in Prague, the Josiah Parker Composition Prize and the Alan Bush Composition Prize in Great Britain (1999) and the main prize of the Polish Society of New Music Competition for Multimedia Projects (1999). In 1998 he received a British Council Fellowship Award . His composition Lutoslawski in memoriam for oboe and piano (1998–1999) was part of the examination program of the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music until 2006 .
