history

The house was built for the client Karl Werber, a bookseller, based on a design by the local architecture firm Stein & Happ on the newly parceled property of the former Lohhof (Hauptstrasse 38-40), which was last owned by the Dell Hotel. After the old building was demolished, the building permit was granted in August 1904 . The bookseller set up his own printing shop in the rear part of the property. The house was also the business headquarters of the Honnefer Volkszeitung run by the Werber family , the formerly the smallest regional newspaper in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was discontinued in 2002. In the third generation, Karl Günter Werber ran the bookstore in his parents' house from 1972. In 2012 he gave it up and sold the house.

In autumn 2013, after the renovation was completed, a local history museum, an archive with library and a meeting point for events were opened in the house, which is sponsored by a newly founded association. The first floor still houses the original bookstore.
