Oscar Stephany's house in Thionville

The house Oscar Stephany in Thionville , a town in the French department of Moselle in the region Grand Est , is a 1904-built residential and commercial building. It stands on an acute-angled corner lot at the intersection of Avenue Albert 1er and Avenue Général de Gaulle. The house was included in the "Inventaire général du patrimoine culturel".

history

In 1904 the notary Oscar Stephany had this large house, visible from afar, built in neo-Gothic style according to the plans of the architect Karl Griebel . It is located in a prominent place in the urban expansion known as Quartier allemand (German quarter), which was built around 1900. At that time, Lorraine was part of the German Empire . In 1907 a lower extension was completed on Avenue Albert 1er.

architecture

The house with large arched windows on the ground floor was built from local stone, the " Pierre de Jaumont ", which is used as house stone on the corners of the house and is carved in the cornices , balconies and window frames in neo-Gothic style. The narrow corner front is surmounted by a towering roof and decorated with dazzling gables.

This residential and commercial building is one of the few houses from the Wilhelmine era in Thionville that has retained its interior design. This includes the vaulted entrance hall , the staircase with an ornate wrought-iron railing and the leaded glass windows of the staircase and the entrance fronts to the apartments. Most of the apartment windows, stained glass windows with floral ornaments, on the street sides are also originally preserved.
