House of Friendship (Schkopau)
The House of Friendship is a listed building in the municipality of Schkopau in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments , the buildings are listed as architectural monuments under registration number 094 20861 .
The House of Friendship, built in 1953, is located on the eastern Bunastraße in Schkopau. The building was founded by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics . The officers of the Halle district decided to build a culture house for the 20,000 employees of the Buna works . The building's own building registry earned the building its nickname X 50 . The building cost around 1.8 million marks and was inaugurated on October 11, 1953. Part of the building was a theater hall with over 750 seats and a concert hall with 250 seats. The stage technology was one of the most modern systems in the GDR . Soon after the opening, other parts were added to the building. In 1958 the building had over 100 rooms for various celebrations and leisure activities. The painter Uwe Pfeifer attended a children's painting group here. The building also had a restaurant with space for 200 people. Various national and international artists made guest appearances in the building until it was closed at the end of 1998. After the closure, various plans for the use of the building were developed, none of which were implemented. Therefore, the building is falling into disrepair.
