House with buttresses in Pondaurat

The so-called house with buttresses (French maison à contreforts ) in Pondaurat , a French commune in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , was built in the 14th century. The buttress block opposite the St-Antoine church was classified as a monument historique in 1990 .

The building probably belonged to the hospice of the Antonite Order , which was founded in the 13th century. In 1776 the complex passed to the Order of Malta , who owned it until the revolution . As a national bien , the hospice on the Way of St. James was auctioned off to various buyers, with the community purchasing a part.

In the southwest corner there are still remains of the échauguettes and parts of the battlement .
