The house with the iron axis ( Romanian Casa cu axa de fier ) is a listed building in the I. District Cetate of the western Romanian city of Timișoara ( German  Timişoara ). It is located at Piața Dr. IC Brătianu No. 1 opposite the Dicasterial Palace .

history

The house with the "Iron Axis" dates from the 18th century. In a niche in the outer wall of the house, an iron axis with a length of 2.5 meters is attached as a house sign . Until 1950, a plaque was attached near the iron axis with the following text: "The house with the iron axis from the 18th century."

Legend has it that the axle should have belonged to the wagon in which Eugene of Savoy moved into what was then Timișoara after the surrender of the Ottomans on October 18, 1716 .
