The Haus von Papen is a listed secular building in Werl , a town in the Soest district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ), Marktstrasse 3. The most famous resident of the house was the former Chancellor Franz von Papen , who was born here.

History and architecture

The former Erbsälzerhof of the von Papen family is a plastered building under a hipped roof . The basement has windows and is accessible via a two-armed flight of stairs to the west . The two-story massive house has two wings. The house, which was originally designed as a three-wing complex, was built around 1730 in place of a previous building. The small courtyard was subsequently closed with a single-storey extension. Inside there are rich stucco ceilings from the construction period. The building was extensively renovated in 1980. It was used as a city ​​library until the beginning of the 21st century , currently it is set up as an office building.
