In German building law, house group refers to a type of construction that consists of at least three adjacent buildings . The adjoining houses each have their own property boundaries . At the head end, the group of houses must keep a distance to the neighboring properties and is therefore part of the open construction method . The house group is not legally defined , but mentioned several times in the Building Utilization Ordinance (BauNVO). For example, groups of houses can be built in special areas in accordance with Section 10 (3) BauNVO and in the case of open construction in accordance with Section 22 (2) BauNVO, whereby the length of a group of houses may not exceed 50 meters.

The house group is differentiated within the open construction method from the single house and the double house , which consists of only two houses attached to one another.

House groups are often formed from row houses , but can also be made up of differently designed houses (example: documenta urbana housing estate in Kassel).
