The Haxtumer Mühle is a windmill in the Aurich district of Haxtum .

history

The first mill was built in 1852 as a grinding and peldemühle . After a lightning strike in 1885 it burned down. After that, today's mill was rebuilt as a two-story gallery Dutch with codend . In 1960 the gallery broke down. The mill was then partially renovated in 1963 . The originally installed sail gate wings were replaced by Venetian blind wings .

During the renovation in 1987/1988, sail gate wings were installed again. However, these initially did not deliver enough power. This was corrected during the next renovation in 2005/2006. Among other things, 22 meter long Corten steel wings with a bussel tail (rounded wing tip modeled on aircraft construction) and canvas covering were installed.

The mill technology is still fully available and functional. However, only the hammer mill is in operation, while the wind- or motor-driven two shot tunnels are shut down. The grinder is used for the connected country trade, but is now electrically operated. The mill is privately owned and can be viewed by telephone.

Specialty

A special feature is the cross stiffening ring made of mild steel. The ring was attached to the wing rim with U-bolts.
