history

St. Katharina was built towards the end of the 14th century by the Frankish crusaders in Nicosia not far from the St. Sophien Cathedral as a small parish church in high Gothic form. The church is 18 meters long and eight meters wide. It has a two-bay nave, which is followed by a choir bay, to which a polygonal closed apse is attached.

After the city was conquered in 1570, St. Catherine was rededicated as the Haydar Pasha Mosque and a small stair tower that originally led to the roof was converted into a minaret. Today the building has been secularized and is used for cultural purposes. It is located in the northern part of the city.
