Hayungshof

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hayungshof is a listed Gulfhof in the municipality of Dunum in the district of Wittmund . The building, completed in 1892, was renovated from 2007 to 2010 by the community of Dunum and has since been used as a village community center. Since 2013 it has been administered by the association "Freundeskreis Hayungshof-Dunum".

history

The farm was built by Hinrich Peters Hayungs from 1890 to 1892, with a side barn being preserved from the farm that had previously been there. In total, the living space is 120 square meters and the barn wing is 450 square meters, making it a typical East Frisian gulf house of medium size. The barn has not been changed since it was built. The Hayungshof was a cattle farm, but horses, pigs and chickens were also kept as livestock, as was customary at the time.

The farm passed to the third oldest son of the builder, Johann Hinrich Hayungs. His daughter Helene Margarethe Hayungs (called Lene Hayungs) last lived there, together with her cousin Johann Thaden, who ran the farm until his death in 1986. During this time, the missing clay tile covering on the roof was exchanged for a corrugated sheet covering, night storage heaters were retrofitted and the chimney was replaced, otherwise the building is still in its original state today. In 1999 Lene Hayungs moved to a nursing home due to health problems and the yard was initially empty.

Refurbishment and current use

In 2006 the community of Dunum bought the Gulfhof with surrounding 10,000 square meters of land and in 2007 began with the renovation and restoration. With the support of the Authority for Geoinformation, Land Development and Real Estate and with the help of the German Foundation for Monument Protection , the renovation was completed by the Wittmund District Craftsmen's Association together with local associations and volunteers by 2010. The project was used by the district craftsmen for training purposes in old construction methods and qualification opportunities for the repair of historic buildings.

As a result, the living area now serves as a museum and was furnished with original furniture from the turn of the century. In the kitchen there are two slugs and next door the Upkamer, so one by the underlying basement slightly elevated location, space, called the "living room". The inside of the barn serves as an event area, including the large Gulf room with 300 square meters for 200 guests and the former cowshed with seating for 50 guests. Sanitary facilities have been built into the former horse stable. Outside there is a cottage garden and a pütt (fountain), a bakery is still planned.

The event area is regularly used by local, traditional associations such as the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein , the rural women and the Spielschar Dunum ( Low German theater).
