Alexander Wurzer

Alexander J. Wurzer (born April 15, 1969 in Munich ) is a German management consultant and professor of IP management at the CEIPI (Center d'Études Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle; German: "Center for international studies on intellectual property") of the University of Strasbourg .

Career

Wurzer studied physics and micro- and molecular biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich and received his doctorate from the Faculty of Physics to Dr. rer. nat . Since the mid-1990s, he is in the area of IP management (IP = Engl. Intellectual property - intellectual property or property rights) for international institutions and enterprises.

Wurzer is the managing partner of Wurzer & Kollegen GmbH, a consulting company for strategic IP management.

Wurzer has headed the Steinbeis Transfer Institute for Intellectual Property Management at the Steinbeis University in Berlin since 2003 . His research interests are economics and the management of technology and innovations as well as all questions about value creation through IP. He is an internationally recognized expert for IP valuation, especially for FRAND issues and license transactions. Since 2004 he has been working regularly for the European Patent Academy as a lecturer in advanced training.

Since 2006, Wurzer has been Head of Studies at the Center d'Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Industrielle (CEIPI) at the University of Strasbourg. He heads the master's degree in “Intellectual Property Law and Management” (MIPLM).

In 2007 he was appointed Professeur Associé at the University of Strasbourg. He also teaches patent valuation and management at numerous international universities and institutions.

On June 6, 2007, Wurzer gave a lecture at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm under the title Price Tags for Patents on the DIN77100 - principles of proper patent valuation. From 2009 to 2010 he was editor of the journal IP Manager: Journal of the Knowledge Economy .

In 2010, he led the seminar “IP Valuation and Technology Transfer” in Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta as a speaker within the framework of the ECAP III (EU-ASEAN Project on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights) training program.

In 2013 he was a member of the “Intellectual Property Valuation” expert group of the European Commission .

Wurzer supports the European IPR Helpdesk , the APEG (Asian Patent Expert Group) of the European Patent Office , the Japanese Patent Office and the Association of Freelance European and Swiss Patent Attorneys (VIPS) with advice, training, lectures and the mediation of IP management Study results.

2015–2016, Wurzer was a member of the reflection group for Austria's national IP strategy, which was published in February 2017.

Since 2015 he has been the spokesman for the Diesel Board of Trustees and a member of the International Institute for IP Management (I3PM).

Honors

In 2002, Wurzer was made a Fellow of the Alta Scuola Politecnica of the Technical Universities of Milan and Turin . Since 2009 he has been recognized annually by Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) as one of the “World's Leading IP Strategists”.

Wurzer deals with the development of operational management systems for intellectual property (IP, intellectual property ). This is based on the idea that IP can make a significant contribution to economic value creation in industrial business models . The focus of work is the specific design of IP strategies and IP as well as the operational implementation of IP management systems for the implementation of competitive strategies .

The creation of a German standard for the proper monetary evaluation of patents (DIN 77100), as well as a DIN-SPEC for the service quality in IP management (DIN SPEC 1060), was largely due to Wurzer's initiative and work . He is chairman of the DIN working committee for quality in IP management (DIN77006). At the European level, he was committed to establishing the IP manager as a separate profession. This is the interface between commercial legal protection and the commercial use of IP.

Memberships / engagement

Wurzer has been a board member of the German Institute for Invention since 2010 , where he is the spokesman for the Diesel Board of Trustees for the award of the Diesel Medal . Wurzer has been a member of the jury for the German Innovation Award of the German Design Council since 2018 . He is chairman of the DIN standards committee for services for quality in IP management and the proper monetary evaluation of patents. He is also a member of the Working Group on Patent Valuation of the Licensing Executives Society (LES).
