The Broken Heart Stone

The Heart Stone (also called Broken Heart Stone or Clach Cridhe ) is a boulder ( English Glacial erratic ) in the Scottish Rannoch Moor . It is on the B846 east of Rannoch Station on the north bank of Loch Eigheach to the west of Perth and Kinross .

The heart stone is a landmark on the Rannoch Moor. During the construction of the B846 from Kinloch Rannoch to Rannoch Station, the stone was viewed as an obstacle and split. It is believed to have been deposited here by a glacier after the last ice age . In the 1950s, it was relocated to its current location to prevent it from sinking into the Loch Eigheach Gaur reservoir, which was enlarged by damming. At this point, the former route to Corrour branches off from today's B846.
