Loch Eigheach is a dammed freshwater lake in the Scottish Highlands . It is located on the eastern edge of Rannoch Moor in the Council Area Perth and Kinross . Loch Eigheach is around 1.8 km long and a maximum of 1 km wide, whereby the lake owes its current size to the dam on the east bank. The uncongested Loch Eigheach was much smaller.
The Allt Eigheach river flows into the lake on its north bank . The Gaur also flows through Loch Eigheach . The river Gaur flows into Loch Eigheach in the west and leaves the lake at the dam in the east. Loch Eigheach is part of the Tummel Hydro-Electric Power Scheme . The water leaving Loch Eigheach via the River Gaur first flows through a hydroelectric power station before being returned to the river bed.
The banks of Loch Eigheach are completely uninhabited. There are no other settlements in the immediate vicinity apart from the Rannoch Station . Parts of the north bank and the dam are accessed from the B846, on which the Heart Stone is located, an ice age boulder. All other sections of the bank cannot be reached by car. Loch Eigheach is a fishing area that is particularly popular for perch .
