The River Tummel ( Scottish Gaelic Abhainn Teamhail ) is a river in the Scottish highlands. It is located in the Perth and Kinross Council Area in the traditional county of Perthshire .
The source of the River Tummel is Loch Rannoch . The river leaves the lake at its eastern end near the village of Kinloch Rannoch . First, it moves in an easterly direction, flowing through both Dunalastair Water and Loch Tummel , where the Tummel Bridge crosses it. A few kilometers after the outflow from Loch Tummel, the direction of the River Tummel turns to the southeast, shortly afterwards to flow through Loch Faskally and pass the town of Pitlochry . Two kilometers south of the village of Ballinluig , the River Tummel flows into the River Tay .
The river is a fishing area where salmon , but also trout , can be caught. The river is also used for rafting in summer . Most of the bank sections of the River Tummel are extremely picturesque and are therefore a popular hiking area.
