The Hecate Rock is a sea-washed cliff rock off the north coast of South Georgia . In front of the entrance to Beckmann Fjord in the Bay of Isles, it is at least 4.2 m below sea level .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1984 after the research vessel HMS Hecate , which had come very close to this rock during hydrographic surveys between January and February 1983 .
