Héctor Ruiz

Héctor de Jesus Ruiz (born December 25, 1945 in Piedras Negras , Mexico ) is an American entrepreneur and former CEO of the US chip manufacturer AMD .

Ruiz received his bachelor's degree in 1968 and his master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Texas , Austin . In 1973 he received his Ph.D. from Rice University for Ph. D. in 1975 he received the American citizenship.

In 2000 he joined AMD as President and Chief Operating Officer, and in April 2002 he succeeded AMD founder Jerry Sanders III as Chief Executive Officer. In 2004 he took over the office of Chairman of the Board. In July 2008 he had to resign as CEO due to poor company figures, and Dirk Meyer was his successor .

Ruiz initially stayed at AMD as Chairman. As part of the spin-off of the manufacturing department as a separate company, he was appointed chairman of the newly established semiconductor foundry Globalfoundries in March 2009 .

In November 2009, Globalfoundries announced the resignation of Héctor Ruiz, submitted in September, as well as his leave of absence as chairman. Ruiz is accused of being involved in an insider business affair (the " Galleon Scandal ").
