Jerry Sanders III

Walter Jeremiah Sanders III (Jerry Sanders III) (born September 12, 1936 in Chicago ) is an American electrical engineer and co-founder of Advanced Micro Devices . He was Chief Executive Officer and President of the company from 1969 to 2002 .

Career

Sanders studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and graduated in 1958 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. After graduating, he worked at Douglas Aircraft Company and Motorola before moving to Fairchild Semiconductor . There he worked in the Sales and Marketing department .

On May 1, 1969, he and former Fairchild employee Ed Turney founded the Sanders Association , which was later renamed Advanced Micro Devices . Sanders was the company's President and CEO from the start. In 2002, Sanders handed over the post of CEO and President of the company to Héctor Ruiz and retired.

Private life

Sanders has three children from his first marriage and a daughter from his second marriage.
