The St. Hedwig Church (Polish: św Jadwigi Śląskiej. ) Is a Roman Catholic Church in the Polish town of Zgorzelec in the Oberlausitz . It belongs to the Deanery of Zgorzelec and is consecrated to St. Hedwig von Andechs , the patron saint of Silesia . The parish of St. Hedwig was founded in 1996. At that time a chapel was built for the parish. Two years later, construction work began on the rectory. On June 8, 2000, construction began on the parish church . In 2009 the interior was largely completed, and another year later the first of three bells was raised and the steeple was put on. The high altar finally moved into the church choir in 2010 .
In the vault below the tower on the south side of the church there is a bronze statue of Pope John Paul II. The tower of the church is 45.10 meters high. The three bells are hung on their own supporting structure and weigh 150, 260 and 500 kilograms. The largest bell is named John Paul II, the smallest is named after Stefan Wyszyński . They were raised in 2011.
