Heer-Land is an area on the island of Spitsbergen , which belongs to Svalbard . The area is located in the southeast of Nordenskiöld-Land and on the border of the region known as Management Area 10 , in which tourists are also allowed to move freely, which is why accompanied excursions from Longyearbyen to the Storfjord often pass its northern border - polar bears can often be found on the coast be observed, which is the destination of many tourists.

etymology

Heer-Land is named after Oswald Heer (1809–1883), a Swiss botanist , palaeobotanist and entomologist who, among other things, studied the fossil plants of Svalbard. Heer was a professor at the University of Zurich .
