Army Pioneer Brigade 127

The Heeres-Pionier-Brigade 127 was a German brigade in World War II .

history

The brigade was set up in the southwest German military district V in November 1944 . The staff of the 511 Engineer Regiment was used to set up the brigade staff.

The unit was subordinated to the 6th Panzer Army on the Eastern Front , including in Hungary . In 1945 the unit was largely destroyed in the Budapest pocket.

From March 1945 the brigade was responsible for protecting the Danube bridges. In April 1945, subordinate to Rudolf von Bünau as the newly appointed combat commander of Vienna , the brigade was tasked with demolishing the Vienna Danube and Danube Canal bridges. I.a. the north-west railway bridge was blown up on April 8, 1945. The command post was meanwhile in the defense area of Krems an der Donau .
