The Roman Catholic Chapel of San Pietro (also Cappella cattolica di San Pietro ), which is protected as a cultural asset, stands on the outskirts above the Bernina Railway ( Rhaetian Railway ) station on the western slope of the valley in the municipality of Poschiavo in Graubünden ( Switzerland ) in the Puschlav valley ( Val Poschiavo in Italian ) ), in the Diocese of Chur . It is dedicated to St. Simon Peter .

The chapel is one of the places of worship that flank the mule track from the Rhine Valley to Italy ( Po Valley ). B. Sta. Maria near Pontresina , San Romerio near Brusio or Santa Perpetua in Tirano .

Outside

The Romanesque church building with an unknown year of construction comes from the early or high Middle Ages . It is a one-room hall church with a retracted, parabolically vaulted apse , in front of which there is an altar yoke with a stitch cap vault. After the construction inspection, this construction was part of the original construction plan. The church was restored from 1961 to 1962.

Inside

The open roof structure dominates the nave. The Romanesque windows have been reconstructed. In the apse there are colorful Renaissance paintings by an unknown Lombard master from 1538, which have been heavily renewed. The lamentation of Christ by saints is shown, framed by a grotesque frieze with coats of arms of the covenant of God ( Capricorn ) and the Upper Covenant ( cross ) as well as an imitation belt arch . Inside are medallions with God the Father , the Evangelists and St. George and St. Viktor. Is located on the right wall of the Altarjochs a Lady with donation inscription of 1538. In the nave the painting of St. Peter from the 17th century. The masonry Altarmensa was subsequently increased.
