The Woyrsch Army Group was formed on August 31, 1916, following the dissolution of the previous Prince Leopold Army Group , which was organizationally linked to the High Command of the 9th Army , based on the High Command of the Woyrsch Army Department under Colonel General Remus von Woyrsch . This was preceded by the change in the Supreme Army Command from Erich von Falkenhayn to Paul von Hindenburg at the end of August , which had also brought about a change from Hindenburg to Field Marshal Prince Leopold of Bavaria at the head of the "German Army Front" on the Eastern Front.

The Army Group held the front in what is now Belarus, from the Pripyat swamps in the south to the Krewo - Smorgon area in the north; their opponent was the Russian western front . As of September 19, 1916, in addition to the Woyrsch Army Division in the Baranowitschi area, the 12th Army (from October 1916 Scheffer Army Division ) in the Lida area and the Gronau Army division in the Pinsk area were subordinate to it . It was connected to the Linsingen Army Group to the south and to the Eichhorn Group to the north ; the headquarters of the Army Group was in Slonim throughout its existence .

After the permanent armistice in the east of December 15, 1917, the Army Group Command was disbanded on the same day. In the same month, the staff was called in to form the 18th Army , which was to be used in the spring offensive on the Western Front.
