from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hegewiese is a settlement in Arnoldshain, a district of Schmitten (Hochtaunus) . The local code is 43400901002.

location

The Hegewiese lies at an altitude of 560 to 660 meters between Weisseberg and Krimmelberg below the Sandplacken . It is accessed via a junction from Landesstraße 3004. The Lauterbach rises below the settlement .

history

The Hegewiese was originally, like the Reifenberger Wiesen , a high valley with poor meadows that were historically created through pasture farming. The inhabitants of the extremely poor Feldberg villages cleared the few areas where agriculture was possible. Due to the altitude and the slope, only grazing was possible in the area of the Hegewiese. After the Second World War , the automation of agriculture made cultivation of these areas uneconomical. Instead, weekend houses for residents of the Rhine-Main area were built on the Hegewiese. In a gradual process, these became regular residential buildings, until today's scattered settlement emerged. This development process also explains the unusually large property sizes of the individual houses.

The Homburg House, a self-catering house run by the Hesse Naturefriends Youth, is located on the edge of the settlement.
