The Heidemoor up'm Piepenbrink is a natural monument in the area of the Paderborn district of Sande . It consists of two parts separated by a dirt road.

Location and description

The natural monument is located in the middle of the Sander Bruch at 102 m above sea level and has an area of about 0.75 ha. It is framed by pine forests.

The Heidemoor up'm Piepenbrink - Ost is now dominated by extensive marsh grass lawns.

The eastern part consists of a depression surrounded by flat dune waves, in which there used to be a large heather pond . This dried up completely after a land consolidation carried out in the 1970s and gradually overgrown with pipe grass ( Molinia caerulea ). Since then, extensive marsh grass lawns with only a few floristic features have dominated the picture. Today there is only a larger area of water available in the winter months.

The western part is a heather moor largely made up of pines ( Pinus sylvestris ), in which the pipe grass is also aspect-forming. In 1991 bell heather and narrow-leaved cotton grass could still be observed in some damp depressions .
