Heidenfeld is a village in the district of Schweinfurt in Lower Franconia . The formerly independent municipality has formed the new municipality of Röthlein with Hirschfeld and Röthlein since the territorial reform that came into effect on May 1, 1978 .

Heidenfeld has 1,464 registered residents as their main residence (as of December 31, 2018).

history

"Heidenvelt" was first mentioned in a document in 1069 when the Heidenfeld Monastery was founded . When the monastery was secularized at the beginning of the 19th century, the independent parish of St. Laurentius was founded with around 450 residents. At around the same time, a political community was also established.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Heidenfeld had 564 residents and 111 properties. In 1928 the population had grown to 680. The village of Heidenfeld with its monastery had thus reached its highest population level.

Attractions

In the surrounding forests there are Celtic barrows , whose origin dates back to 1200 BC. Is estimated.

The Maria Hilf monastery was built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann .

The bones of the beatified martyr Liborius Wagner rest in the parish church of St. Laurentius . For many pilgrims, these bones are the reason for their visit.

Famous Heidenfelder

Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber was a well-known son of Heidenfeld . He has the later Pope Benedict XVI. confirmed and ordained a priest.

Hubert Franz Maria Graf von Andlau-Homburg was born on June 7, 1868 in Heidenfeld. He was senator of Alsace-Lorraine and from 1902 to 1935 mayor of Stotzheim (Alsace); He died there on November 3, 1959.
