Heijaste is a five-piece rock band from the Finnish Tampere , which was founded in 2000 by three musicians. Her style is a mixture of typically melancholic Finnish rock music and energetic punk elements, which are particularly expressed in the sometimes almost screaming vocal parts of frontman AJ Keskinen.

history

Heijaste was founded in 2000 in Tampere, Finland. At that time the band consisted of Antti Juhani "AJ" Keskinen, Juho Mustonen and Eero "eWo" Honkanen, with singer AJ also being responsible for the bass , Juho (now bass) doing the guitar and Eero being responsible for the drums . AJ and Juho then changed instruments after a while, because they found that it worked better that way. The band began with the rehearsals and to write their first own songs until a long break followed in 2002 because drummer Eero had no work equipment. During the break, the idea of taking a second guitarist on board matured and so when rehearsals started again in 2003, Donny joined the band. From then on he operated the bass while Juho returned to the guitar. Also came keyboardist Tommy to the band.

After a year of rehearsal, the band played for the first time on December 13, 2003, followed by the release of a demo tape with three songs in January 2004. Then Heijaste played various gigs, now also in larger locations like the Klubi in Tampere, and in April they took part in the band competition Jee Jee's Cityrock Competition . The following year the three-song demo Nimetön was released in the spring , and Heijaste also signed a contract with the booking agency Sahamusic.

In summer 2005 the band changed again. Bassist Donny quit, Juho returned to bass, and Viljami Tiainen joined as the new guitarist. Shortly afterwards keyboardist Tommy was replaced by Joona Ukkonen, who in the meantime called himself Jones Trent. With the new line-up, Heijaste released the self-produced EP Sydämeni (dt. Mein Herz ) in 2006 , in the following year 2007 the band came under contract with Hype Records and in the same year released their debut album Silta yli kaiken (dt. Bridge over everything ).

In July 2007 keyboardist Joona left the band. He was replaced by Antti "Cece" Hakulinen. In addition, Heijaste had to do without drummer Eero Honkanen at some performances in 2008. Tender Rexx (Jann Wilde & The Neon Comets) stepped in for four concerts, then ex-Feiled frontman Anton Laurila took over the drums, initially only for a few concerts. In February 2009, however, the Heijaste chapter seemed to be over for Eero Honkanen, who also played in other bands (Black Jesus (dissolved), The Voodoo Nights). On the band's new homepage, Anton appeared as the drummer's name . However, he left the band in July of the same year, at the same time as Cece Hakulinen, who made room for the returning Joona. In the place of drummer Anton came Ano, who had already performed with the band Tales About People - TAP, a formation friends with Heijaste.

Heijaste are currently working on a new album in the studio. A release date has not yet been set as the band currently has no record deal. For the time being, the new songs can only be heard during live performances.
