The Holy Spirit Church is one of two churches in the Roman Catholic parish of St. Francis of Assisi Hochdahl. It is located on Brechtstrasse in the Sandheide district in Erkrath-Hochdahl . It is named after the Holy Spirit , one of the three persons of the divine trinity . The church belongs to the district dean of Mettmann in the archdiocese of Cologne .

description

The church was built from 1969 to 1971 according to plans by Gottfried Böhm in the style of concrete brutalism on a triangular floor plan. In the center of the church there is an altar island around which the stalls are grouped. The roof is multi-tiered and forms a kind of dome with window openings. The back wall of the church building is a closed, massive wall made of exposed concrete. The building is considered a "successful example of church building after the 2nd Vatican Council".
