Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Sinheim-Weiler

The Catholic Church of the Holy Family in Weiler , a district of the large district town of Sinsheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in northern Baden-Württemberg , was built in 1908. The church burned down on June 12, 1984 and was rebuilt by June 1985. Today it belongs to the Angelbachtal - Hilsbach pastoral care unit .

history

After the Catholics in Weiler had prepared the dilapidated St. Anne's Chapel around 1750, Catholic services were held there halfway up the Steinsberg . Because of the arduous path, consideration was given to building a Catholic church in Weiler at the beginning of the 19th century, but the congregation was only able to acquire a building site at the beginning of the 20th century and start building the church. The foundation stone of the church was laid on August 23, 1908. The church, built in the neo-Gothic style, was consecrated on September 26, 1909. In 1960 it was renovated. On June 12, 1984 a fire broke out during roofing work, after which the church burned down almost completely. On June 23, 1985, the first service was celebrated in the rebuilt church.

Bells

When the church was being built, three bronze bells were ordered from AF Allmer's son in Bruchsal. Since the bells were not ready in time for the church consecration, a bell of the Anna chapel rang initially. In the course of the year, Allmers delivered the three bells. The largest had the strike note b ', a diameter of 81 cm and a weight of 285 kg. The middle one had the strike note d '', a diameter of 65 cm and a weight of 150 kg. The small bell had the strike tone f '', a diameter of 54 cm and a weight of 87 kg. The large and small bells had to be delivered for armaments purposes in 1917 during the First World War .

In 1922, Allmers had a replacement bell with the strike tone f '', a diameter of 55 cm and a weight of 90 kg. In addition, another small bell came into the church, which served as a support when the clock strikes. In 1928 Allmers cast a new big bell for the church. This had the striking note b ', a diameter of 81 cm and a weight of 290 kg. After purchasing this bell, the small clock-striking bell was moved to the Anna chapel.

During the Second World War , the remaining bell from 1909 and the big bell from 1928 had to be delivered in 1942. After the Second World War, the church received a loan bell from Neudorf in the Opole area. This was cast by Heinrich Joseph Reichel in 1710 , had the striking note 'es', a diameter of 66.2 cm and a weight of 178 kg. It bore a longer Latin inscription with the donor's name. However, the two bells did not sound harmoniously together, so that three new bells were ordered from Friedrich Wilhelm Schilling in Heidelberg and in return the loaned bell from 1710 was returned to Schilling. The three Schilling bells from 1957 were named after Jesus, Maria and Josef, had the chimes c ", d" and f ", diameters of 76.6 cm, 67.5 cm and 60 cm and weighed 187 kg, 195 kg and 140 kg.

The church fire of 1984 destroyed the three Schilling bells from 1957. As a result, on March 8, 1985, the current four-peal was cast at the Karlsruhe bell foundry. The Jesus bell has the striking note h ', a diameter of 79.2 cm and a weight of 335 kg. The Marienglocke has the strike tone e '', a diameter of 60.7 cm and a weight of 153 kg. The Josefs bell has the strike tone f sharp '', a diameter of 56.7 cm and a weight of 125 kg. The Leonhard bell has the strike tone `` G sharp '', a diameter of 50.5 cm and a weight of 88 kg.
