The Heimattiergarten Fulda is an animal park in the East Hessian city of Fulda .

location

The Heimattiergarten is located above the Fulda meadows in the Westend district , in the Neuenberg area . Above the Heimattiergarten are the Sickels district and the Galerie district .

history

The home zoo was founded in 1965 as a result of a former poultry breeding association. The sponsoring association is Heimattiergarten Fulda e. V. From May 2016 to April 2017 the zoo was closed due to deficiencies in keeping animals; the responsible veterinary office had forbidden the opening.

Expansion plans

An expansion and redesign of the zoo is planned as part of the Fulda State Garden Show , which is to take place in 2023. A link is to be made with the sub-area “Agriculture & Nature”.

Animals

In the home zoo there are not only domestic animals such as goats , pigeons , sheep , fallow deer and owls, but also some exotic species such as Bennett kangaroos , dwarf zebus and various birds, mainly parrots .
