Homecoming is the title of a novel by the English author Rosamunde Pilcher .

The novel (English Coming Home ) was first published in German in 1995 under the license of Rowohlt Verlag by Wunderlich Verlag in Reinbek near Hamburg ( ISBN 3-8052-0559-7 ). Ingrid Altrichter provided the German translation. Over 300,000 copies were made in the first year of publication. In 1996 an unabridged book club licensed edition was published by Bertelsmann and a year later by Rowohlt himself. In 2003, a paperback edition followed by the same publisher and a phonogram read by Aglaia Szyszkowitz under the direction of Vera Teichmann.

In 1935, 14-year-old Judith Dunbar lived in Cornwall , her mother Molly and her little sister Jess had to go to Singapore to live with Bruce Dunbar, Molly's husband. Molly thinks Judith is better off staying in Cornwall, so she enrolls Judith at St. Ursula's boarding school. She is supposed to go to her aunt during the holidays. Judith is slowly settling into boarding school life and meets her good friend Loveday Carey-Lewis, who invites her to Nacherrow, her parents' house, to visit them for a weekend. Judith is received with open arms in the family and is now a welcome guest. A few weeks later, her aunt dies and bequeaths her property to Judith. From now on she lives happily with the Carey Lewis during the holidays.

In 1939 Judith met Loveday's older brother Edward, and fell in love with him. At first he reciprocates her feelings, but the war is imminent and he has no serious intentions . The war breaks out. This hurts Judith very much and she decides to do her military service with the Marine Auxiliary Corps for Women. Edward dies in the war, Loveday's boyfriend is missing and Judith's parents are missing. In the middle of the war in 1942, Judith meets Jeremy in London, a friend from Nacherrow. They love each other, but he has to go back to sea the next day, a reunion is uncertain. When the war ended in 1945 and Judith's sister Jess was found, she lived with Judith. Loveday's friend returns from the war; he survived captivity in Changi . Jeremy is also coming back to his homeland.
