Homecoming Foundation

The Heimkehrerstiftung was a non-profit foundation under public law of the Federal Republic of Germany with its seat in Bonn .

It was established in 1956 under Section 44 of the Prisoner of War Compensation Act under the name Heimkehrerstiftung - Foundation for former prisoners of war and has been continued under the name Heimkehrerstiftung since 1993 .

Their task was the economic and social promotion of former German prisoners of war .

This includes:

  • Germans who were captured and held by a foreign power for military or military-like service in causal connection with the Second World War (former prisoners of war),
  • surviving spouses of deceased former prisoners of war, provided they have not entered into a new marriage and
  • Persons who are considered former prisoners of war within the meaning of this Act (Germans who were detained by a foreign power or deported to a foreign national territory in the causal connection with events that were directly related to the warfare of the Second World War or because of their ethnicity .

The Heimkehrerstiftung was dissolved by federal law (Heimkehrerstiftungsaufhebungsgesetz - HKStAufhG) on December 31, 2007. Its tasks were transferred to the Federal Office of Administration on January 1, 2008 .
