Heini Scheffler (born May 16, 1925 in Niederhaßlau ) is a German graphic artist. He became known through numerous charcoal drawings of his West Saxon homeland and the weather frog Quakel , which Günter Würdemann drew for the first time and which he adopted as an idea for 37 years in the Free Press for 37 years .

Life

Scheffler completed an apprenticeship as a lithographer . After he was released from captivity, Scheffler worked as a freelance graphic designer in Zwickau . He was a member of the Association of German Visual Artists (VBKD). His weather frog Quakel , which appeared for the first time on September 1, 1952, had the gift of "making the readers of the Free Press smile" even in the worst weather. It is no coincidence that the name "father of the weather frog" comes from this.

Scheffler's drawings appeared not only in the Free Press, but also in the Sächsische Heimatblätter and in the Zwickauer Pulsschlag .

In his charcoal drawings and lithographically drawn cityscapes, he expressed the important aspects of his motifs that could not be emphasized with photography. In over 40 years of work for the Free Press, his pen or pen produced around 10,000 drawings.

In old age he donated some of his works to the Foundation for the Friends of the Musischer Schlossberg Planitz to support the renovation of the Planitz tea house.

In May 2012, the then 87-year-old Heini Scheffler celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary ( Iron Wedding ) with his wife Ruth .
