Heinrich Auer (librarian)

Joachim Heinrich Auer (born April 29, 1884 in Cologne , † May 15, 1951 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German librarian . He was director of the Caritas library .

Life

He was the son of the merchant and mill owner Heinrich Auer and his wife Elisabeth nee Peschges. After attending grammar school in Andernach , he studied history at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau, Heidelberg and Bonn until 1910. He then worked as a research assistant at the headquarters of the German Caritas Association in Freiburg im Breisgau from 1911. In 1913 he was appointed librarian. From 1916 to 1918 he took part in the First World War. In 1922 he became director of the library of the German Caritas Association . In addition, Heinrich Auer was the co-editor of the publications on Caritaswissenschaft and the church manual.

He was a member of the Görres Society and remained unmarried throughout his life.

Auer was denounced in 1942 for criticizing the Führer and was imprisoned by the Gestapo; he was imprisoned in the Dachau concentration camp from 1943 to 1945 .
