Heinrich Bosshard (* 1748 in Rümikon near Elsau , † 1815 in Hombrechtikon ) was a farmer , lay preacher and geodesist .

Live and act

Heinrich Bosshard was born in Rümikon near Elsau in 1748 as the sixth child of a smallholder family . He lived in poor conditions all of his life. At a young age he took mathematics lessons from Anna Barbara Reinhart . With this knowledge, he made a reputation as a surveyor. On November 9, 1815, Bosshard was buried in Hombrechtikon.

On behalf of the municipality of Elsau, the historian Daniel Schmid redesigned and supplemented Bosshard's out-of-print autobiography. It is the only surviving life story of a Zurich farmer from the 18th century.
