Heinrich Claes
Heinrich Claes (born January 31, 1885 in Eschweiler ; † May 6, 1963 ) was mayor of Küppersteg from 1921 to 1930 before the merger to Leverkusen , after the merger from 1930 to 1933 first and from 1945 to 1946 re-appointed mayor of Leverkusen.
Claes was deposed as mayor in the Third Reich and replaced by Wilhelm Tödtmann from the NSDAP . In 1937, Claes succeeded Jakob Schaefer as chairman of the Volkswartbund , a position that he retained after 1945. During the period up until after the Second World War , he took on administrative tasks in a hospital in Cologne . In 1945 he was reinstated as mayor. However, he then took over the post of city director and thus the administrative functions in the city dual leadership introduced by the British occupying forces in 1946 while Johannes Dott became mayor. Claes has been the bearer of the Leverkusen Ring of Honor since 1960 . Claes was married and had a daughter ( Astrid Gehlhoff-Claes ).
During his studies in 1903 he became a member of the AV Cheruscia Münster .
