Heinrich Duden
Heinrich V. Duden († April 5, 1601 ) was abbot of the monasteries Werden and Helmstedt from 1573 to 1601 .
Heinrich Duden came from Xanten and entered the Werden monastery in 1542. The Cellerar was elected abbot of the Werden and Helmstedt monasteries in 1573 after lengthy disputes in the convent . In order to alleviate the oppressive tax debts of the Werden monastery, he sold the Codex Argenteus , which was created around 500 AD and moved to the Werden monastery library in the 9th century, to the later Emperor Rudolf II in Prague . The abbot died on April 5, 1601 after a long illness and was buried in the Apostles' choir of the Werden collegiate church.
