Heinrich Eggebrecht (born October 12, 1897 in Kathendorf near Stendal ; † March 9, 1958 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German seed researcher.

Eggebrecht, the son of a farmer, studied agriculture at the University of Halle from 1920 and received his doctorate there in 1924 on a zootechnical subject. He then stayed in Halle and worked at the agricultural chemical control station. From 1938 to 1945 he was head of the seed testing center and from 1942 to 1945 he was also director of the agricultural investigation office in Halle.

In 1948 Eggebrecht took over the management of the Thuringian State Institute for Seed Testing. With the establishment of the Institute for Agricultural Experiments and Investigations in Jena in 1952, he became head of the department there for the investigation of seeds and plants. At the same time he established semen science as an independent teaching and research area at the University of Jena . As professor and director, he headed the institute for seminal science at the University of Jena that he established until his premature death.

Eggebrecht was a deep connoisseur of seeds. His most important publication is his method handbook The Examination of Seeds , which has been the authoritative standard work for the examination of seeds in Germany for decades since 1940. In numerous magazine articles, Eggebrecht dealt with the value of origin , the lifespan and the problems of storing seeds. His last, four-edition identification book for weeds in the field, found high recognition in agricultural practice .
