Heinrich Hirsch (numismatist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Hirsch (* 1868 in Schweinfurt ; † 1943 in Basel ) was a German numismatist and coin dealer.

In 1900 he joined his brother Moritz in the company of his uncle Otto Helbing, which he continued with his brother as Otto Helbing's successor after his departure in 1910 and which he managed alone after his death in 1914. In 1934 his nephew Gerhard Hirsch became a co-owner. The company held numerous coin auctions. As a Jew, Hirsch's auction license was withdrawn in 1935. In the course of the “ Aryanization ”, the company was sold to Karl Kreß in 1938 , who continued to run it under its old name. Hirsch emigrated to Switzerland, where he died in 1942 (according to his nephew Gerhard Hirsch).
