Heinrich I (Geldern)

Heinrich I von Geldern (* around 1117 ; † May 27 or September 10, 1182 ) was Count of Geldern and Zutphen .

He was the son of Count Gerhard II von Geldern († 1131) and Ermgard von Zutphen († 1138). He inherited the county of Geldern from his father and the county of Zutphen from his mother.

He pushed a large wedge into the Utrecht diocese area by clearing , but had to give up an alliance with the city of Utrecht against the bishop under Dutch pressure .

Around 1135 he married Agnes von Arnstein, their son and heir was Count Otto I. von Geldern .

Heinrich is buried in the Kamp monastery .
