Heinrich Justus Schneider
Heinrich Justus Schneider (born July 20, 1811 in Coburg , † July 26, 1884 in Gotha ) was a German painter and draftsman of realism .
Life
He grew up in Coburg. He received his artistic training from 1838 to 1840 at the Munich Academy a . a. with Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld , then in Antwerp in Gustave Wappers' studio . In 1849, Duke Ernst of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha appointed him director of the picture gallery and the copper engraving cabinet in Gotha and promoted him to "ducal Saxon court councilor".
His paintings mostly belong to the historical genre, he also created excellent watercolors in which he a. a. Thuringian landscapes, buildings and people characters. His estate is partly owned by the Royal Collection in London and partly owned by his descendants.
