Heinrich Körner (geographer)

Hans Heinrich Körner (born April 26, 1755 in Zurich ; † August 6, 1822 there ) was a Swiss geographer .

Hans Heinrich Körner was the son of the tailor Melchior Körner and his wife Maria Elisabeth, née. Cramer. He studied theology in Zurich and was ordained in 1779 . Körner gave private lessons in history, geography, geometry and arithmetic. In 1783 he published the textbook Arithmetic Lessons for Young People and, a little later, anonymously, a geographical card game about Switzerland. From 1792 he worked as a teacher at the art school in Zurich. In 1798 he became professor of history, geography and ethics at this school. In 1795 he published geographic-statistical tables on Switzerland and in 1805 a brief description of the earth , which was based on Johann Konrad Fäsi's example, but was aimed at young people.
