Heinrich Lange († 1466) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg and chronicler.

Life

Heinrich Lange was the bar master of the brawn at Lüneburg and since 1431 councilor of Lüneburg. In 1446 he became mayor in 1446. He represented, albeit less energetically than Johann Springintgut , the later energetically carried out project of the patrician, ie Sülfmeisterfamily council, all of the significant debts which the Hanseatic city had incurred in the Sate riots Salt pan owners, mostly monasteries and donors, to burden the "pleter prelates". This attempt gave the provost of the Lüne monastery , Dietrich Schaper, the opportunity to turn the citizens against the council. The council was deposed in the Lüneburg Prelate War and replaced by a new council. Lange, too, lost his offices in 1454, at that time “Director Curiae”, and only re-entered in 1456 when the Old Council returned. Lange was very wealthy and made many church foundations.

The youngest son of his first marriage to Elisabeth (Beke) Tzerstede (Sarstedt), Gottfried Lange , later became Bishop of Schwerin .

The colored representations in the coat of arms of the patrician family Lange in Lüneburg show a shield divided lengthways by silver and red with a half white bear rising to the right, armored in red on the mouth and paws. But there was also the heraldic shield, divided by green and red, with the half bear: Put there what is right or wrong . wrote the genealogist Büttner in 1704.

Lange described the Lüneburg Prelate War as a chronicler.
