Heinrich Meldau

Heinrich Friedrich Konrad Meldau (born January 11, 1866 in Nordholz , † April 23, 1937 in Bremen ) was a German nautical instructor.

Life

Meldau, the son of a tax inspector, went to the Johanneum in Lüneburg , where he graduated from high school in 1886. He studied mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Göttingen , among others with Schering , Hermann Amandus Schwarz and Felix Klein , and received his doctorate in 1895 ( On the daily and annual period of the variations in the geomagnetic force in Wilhelmshaven during the polar expeditions of 1882 and 1883 , Hanover ). He was a teacher (professor) at the Bremen Seafaring School and author or co-author of numerous nautical textbooks, among other things, he worked with Otto Fulst and Carl Schilling (1857-1932, he was 1897 to 1928 director of the Bremen Seafaring School) the steering of the former director (1858 until his death in 1892) of the seafaring school Bremen Arthur Breusing . Meldau dealt in particular with the compass as a navigation instrument, for example corrections for compass readings on iron ships.
