biography

Meyer joined Johann Lange's shipyard in Bremen-Vegesack in 1890 as an accountant . He soon moved to Magdeburg because the shipyard's business was bad. However, at the end of 1893, the AG Bremer Vulkan Schiffbau und Maschinenfabrik was founded, which also took over the Langesche Werft. Meyer's former supervisor, Victor Stanislaus Nawatzki , now became director of the newly founded shipyard and convinced him to return to Vegesack. At the beginning of 1894 Meyer joined Vulkan, soon became an authorized signatory and headed the commercial office. In 1912 he became one of three directors and in 1914 a deputy member of the board. After Nawatzki left, Meyer took over the commercial management of the shipyard in November 1922 as a new member of the board, together with Wilhelm Knauer ( mechanical engineering ) and Mathias Esser ( shipbuilding ). After retiring as a director, Meyer became a member of the supervisory board in 1938.

Meyer also promoted housing construction for shipyard workers. He was a manager in several institutions, including a member of the Vegesack City Council. Meyer died at the age of 73 and was buried in the New Cemetery in Vegesack.

The Heinrich Meyer Street is located in the district of Vegesack ferry Lobbendorf in which the long ash yard also was.
