Hobgoblins is a horror film from 1988. The film is thematically based on the film series Gremlins and Critters .
action
The student Kevin successfully applies for a job as a night watchman in an abandoned film studio . A new horror film was originally supposed to be shot there, but production was discontinued for unknown reasons. The old night watchman of the film studio, McGreedy, who has been working there for over 30 years, strictly forbids Kevin to open the vault for security reasons. When a vandal is chased at night, Kevin becomes curious and opens the vaults anyway. As a result, the hobgoblins held there, small, nimble, malicious, hairy and large-toothed extraterrestrial beings with strong mental powers, can escape and spread mischief in the city. The hobgoblins have the ability to sneak into people's thoughts and telepathically make their wishes come true using illusions before they then kill them with this distraction.
Kevin succeeds in the end with the help of McGreedy, who had locked the creatures in the film studio the whole time to protect humanity, to incapacitate the hobgoblins.
Reviews
“A student works as a night watchman to supplement his pocket money. A colleague instructs him and urges him not to open the steel door in the basement. The warning is one more reason to peek behind the door. With this he sets free the "hobgoblins", small alien monsters that landed on earth a long time ago. An infusion of the horror theme known from films like "Gremlins" and "Critters". "
“Completely immobile puppets are presented to the audience, in which the actors have to work hard in battle scenes in order not to look ridiculous, which does not succeed [...] Especially the sometimes amateurish scenes, the bad monsters and the dull characters bring joy to the trash fan and can entertain and that's exactly what it's supposed to be. [...] "
In July 2017, the film was shown as part of the Tele 5 series The Worst Films of All Time .
