Heinrich Mitter (born March 27, 1929 in Graz ) is an Austrian theoretical physicist who dealt with quantum theory and the theory of elementary particles.

Life

Mitter studied at the University of Graz , where he received his doctorate under Paul Urban in 1953 and then worked as an assistant. He then worked in the 1950s at the Max Planck Institute for Physics with Werner Heisenberg in Göttingen and Munich, where he published on nonlinear spinor equations as part of Heisenberg's attempt at a unified theory of elementary particles. In 1965 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University of Munich , where he was a private lecturer. 1969 to 1976 he was a professor at the University of Tübingen . From 1976 he was a professor at the University of Graz, where he was rector from 1983 to 1985. Between 1965 and 1993 Mitter supervised and reviewed 15 dissertations and 15 diploma theses. In 1997 Mitter retired.

Harald Fritzsch is one of his doctoral students .
