Heinrich Rieke (born June 10, 1843 in Teichhütte , † July 21, 1922 in Braunschweig ) was a German social democratic politician and trade unionist.

Live and act

After attending primary school, Rieke did an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and stone carver and then went on a journeyman hike through Germany. He then worked as a bricklayer until 1877. In 1868 Rieke joined the ADAV and from 1872 belonged to the SDAP and later to the SPD . From 1873 to 1876 Rieke was President of the International Masons 'and Carpenters' Union, based in Braunschweig. From 1886 he was an independent master mason there. From 1878 to 1922 he was a city councilor and from 1903 to 1916 a member of the supervisory board of the consumer association in Braunschweig. In addition, Rieke was for many years chairman of the regional Social Democratic Party organization and companies supporting the party Druckerei H. Rieke & Co . In 1903, 1907 and 1912 he ran in vain for the Reichstag . From 1918 to 1920 Rieke was a member of the Braunschweig State Parliament . In 1920 he became a member of the Reichstag and served as senior president until his death .
