Heinrich Schönfeld (* 1809 in Dresden , † 1845 in Munich ) was a German painter .

Life

Heinrich Schönfeld initially trained as a painter at the Dresden Academy of the Arts, and then studied architecture. A focus of his work was theater and architectural painting. From Munich, where he had lived since 1830, he also traveled through southern Europe, where he made watercolors with cityscapes and studies of mainly medieval buildings. In the Neue Pinakothek in Munich hangs a view of the “Metzger Quai in Strasbourg” painted in 1840 . Many of his scenic city vedutas illustrate the "Original Views of the most historically remarkable cities in Germany, their most important cathedrals" published by Ludwig Lange (1808–1868) in six volumes .
